The Miracle League of Alexandria honored the city’s first responders during its 14th annual tribute game Sept. 6 at the Nannie J. Lee Recreation Center.
The event recognized Alexandria’s police officers, firefighters, rescue workers and sheriff’s deputies while remembering those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11 attacks.
Sheriff Sean Casey acknowledged the lasting difficulty of Sept. 11 and credited the community, including Miracle League president Mac Slover, for supporting first responders.
Casey said that support helps personnel perform their duties each day, prepared to risk their lives again if necessary to protect the public.
Slover described Sept. 11 as a time to remember extraordinary heroes who may appear to be ordinary people. He thanked first responders for the risks they take and honored those who died serving the country.
First responders stood at attention during the national anthem as part of the tribute.
