Arlington’s early-summer calendar features free trees, concerts, recycling, outdoor movies, community programs and family activities through July 12.

Community programs and opportunities

Applications for EcoAction Arlington’s Fall 2025 Tree Planting Program are open through June 23. Arlington residents can apply for free native trees to help expand the county’s urban canopy.

Residents of 13 historically under-resourced neighborhoods with limited tree coverage can choose from a broader selection of trees and shrubs through the Tree Canopy Equity Program. Eligible neighborhoods are Arlington View, Arlington Mill, Aurora Highlands, Barcroft, Buckingham, Columbia Heights, Glebewood, Glencarlyn, Green Valley, John M. Langston, Long Branch Creek, Penrose and Radnor/Fort Myer Heights.

The Kiwanis Club of Arlington is selling 10-pound boxes of fresh blueberries for $45. Proceeds benefit more than 30 nonprofits supporting local children through food, health, education and leadership programs, including Arlington Thrive, Capital Caring’s Point of Hope Camp, Music for Life and YMCA Arlington.

Orders can be picked up from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, June 20, or from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 21, in the parking lot at Cherrydale United Methodist Church, 3701 Lorcom Lane.

Centers for Opportunity Arlington is seeking donations of adult clothing and shoes for people recovering from homelessness, substance use and mental illness. Job-appropriate clothing is especially needed. Donations may be taken to 3219 Columbia Pike, Suite 101. Program coordinator Greg can be reached at 703-567-1346.

Arlington Neighborhood Village, Arlington County and Marymount University are recruiting volunteers for the Community Ambassador Program. Ambassadors connected with civic groups, faith communities, senior centers, apartment buildings and other local organizations receive training about services and activities for older adults.

Volunteers share information about support programs, civic and social opportunities, education and enrichment while gathering feedback from residents. Recurring events and exhibitions

Amazon’s Met Park, 1400 S. Eads St., continues its community programming with music, crafts, fitness, food and other activities.

The family-friendly Crafts and Jazz Series runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sundays through June 15 and from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays through June 12. Farmers markets are held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays. A new bingo series takes place from 4 to 5 p.m. every other Wednesday through June.

Through June 29, Arlington Artists Alliance Galleries is presenting a student art show at The Crossing Clarendon, 2700 Clarendon Blvd., Suite R330. High school students from the Arlington Career Center helped curate and produce the professional exhibition while learning about promotion, framing, pricing and gallery inventory. Gallery hours are noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

Mason Square Plaza’s summer events continue through Aug. 8 with dance, yoga, music and art. The Arlington plaza offers seating, tables and large umbrellas. Registration is not required, and participation is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Westpost at National Landing, 1201 S. Joyce St., will host free, family-friendly live music from 7 to 9 p.m. June 19 and 26. The Shelby Blondell Duo with percussion will perform roots rock June 19, followed by pop act Uncle Jesse on June 26.

Friday, June 20

Arlington Parks and Recreation will participate in Play All Day VA, a statewide celebration of the summer solstice. Free programs and services will run from sunrise to sunset, highlighting community recreation opportunities.

Saturday, June 21

Arlington’s spring Environmental Collection and Recycling Event will be held at 1425 N. Quincy St. Residents can safely drop off household hazardous materials and old electronics.

Accepted items include up to 25 cans of paint, batteries, garden chemicals, fire extinguishers, household cleaners, petroleum products, flammable solvents, automotive fluids and small metal objects. Information is available at 703-228-5000.

The Village at Shirlington, 2700 S. Quincy St., will welcome summer with a Yacht Party from 5 to 7 p.m. Yacht-rock band Yot Rox will perform, and nearby restaurants and retailers will offer specials. Attendees are encouraged to wear linens, floral clothing and boat shoes.

The indoor Arlington Open Pickleball Tournament will bring together players rated from intermediate 3.0 through experienced 4.5 competitors. Participants will compete with partners for prizes and podium finishes.

Rosslyn Cinema will show “Barbie” at Gateway Park. The free, all-ages event opens at 6 p.m., with the film scheduled to begin at approximately 8:45 p.m.

At 8 p.m., All You Need Is Beatles will perform at Lubber Run Amphitheater. Four Washington-area musicians will present songs from the Beatles catalog during the free, all-ages concert.

Sunday, June 22

The Firefly Festival will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at Fort C.F. Smith Park. The free celebration of bioluminescent beetles will feature bug hunts, games, crafts, nature walks and educational talks.

Thursday, June 26

The fifth annual Pride with the Police event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at Freddie’s Beach Bar and Restaurant, 555 23rd St. S.

Arlington County police officers, firefighters, sheriff’s deputies and emergency-management personnel will join the informal Pride Month gathering. The event includes light refreshments, LGBTQ+ trivia, conversations about public safety and opportunities to connect with first responders. There will be no speeches or formal agenda.

Friday, July 4

The Lyon Village Fourth of July Parade and Picnic begins at 11 a.m. at Key Boulevard and North Jackson Street. Participants should begin lining up at 10:30 a.m. on North Jackson Street near Key Boulevard.

Antique cars and police and fire vehicles will join the parade. Families and other residents may march or watch from the neighborhood. Vehicle owners can contact John Carten at GJCarten@verizon.net to participate.

Saturday, July 12

The Comedy Karaoke Trivia Funtime Show begins at 7:30 p.m. at Highline RxR, 2010 Crystal Drive. Individuals and teams can compete for prizes in trivia and karaoke contests.

Christian Hunt will host the event, which also features comedians from the Washington area. Dom Grayer is scheduled to headline the July show.
