A possibly armed man surrendered to Fairfax County police negotiators Wednesday afternoon after an hourslong barricade incident outside CIA headquarters in McLean.

Police were dispatched shortly before 10 a.m. on March 19, 2025, to assist CIA police at the Langley facility. Emergency radio traffic described a man sitting on a bench outside the security gate with a gun held to his head.

Although initial scanner reports indicated that several rounds might have been fired, law enforcement officials later said no shots were fired. No injuries were reported.

Fairfax County police closed Route 123, also known as Dolley Madison Boulevard, in both directions between Georgetown Pike and Savile Lane. The department’s Special Operations Division joined the response, and three armored vehicles were positioned near the headquarters as negotiations continued.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., police announced that the man had surrendered to negotiators and was taken into custody. Authorities declared the barricade incident resolved and reopened Dolley Madison Boulevard to traffic.
