A high-speed pursuit that began early Sunday on Interstate 495 in Fairfax County ended with an arrest and a fire that burned two vehicles.

A Virginia State Police trooper spotted a vehicle traveling at high speed in the Beltway’s westbound lanes near Telegraph Road at about 12:57 a.m. Police said the driver refused to stop.

The pursuit continued through the Mixing Bowl and onto northbound Interstate 395 before the driver exited at Edsall Road. The chase then moved through residential streets and into an apartment complex parking lot.

A trooper used a pursuit maneuver to stop the vehicle. Police said the driver got out while the vehicle was still in drive and attempted to flee on foot.

Troopers arrested the driver after a brief foot chase. The unattended vehicle struck a parked vehicle and caught fire, burning both vehicles.

The incident remains under investigation.
