Centreville swept its Concorde District basketball openers Friday night, pairing a dominant girls victory with a boys comeback that came down to the final shot.

The host Wildcats’ girls team defeated Madison 62-31 on Jan. 10, while Centreville’s boys rallied for a 56-55 win.

Centreville’s defending 6D North Region champion girls improved to 10-2 with their third straight victory. The Wildcats opened the game with nine unanswered points, led 14-2 after the first quarter and carried a 32-15 advantage into halftime.

Kennedy Parrott paced Centreville with 21 points and two assists. Maila Siriwardene added 18 points, five rebounds and two steals, while Claire Kang finished with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Molly Veley made two three-pointers off the bench, and Daniela Cuellar collected six rebounds and two assists.

Ava Wu and Emily Linegang scored seven points apiece for Madison, which fell to 6-6. Wu also recorded three assists. Jada Ramos-Diggs and Sara Becker each contributed six points, with Becker grabbing four rebounds.

The boys game delivered a far tighter finish. Centreville trailed for most of the night after holding brief leads of 3-2 and 8-7 early in the contest.

Madison led 15-10 after the first quarter, 29-23 at halftime and 43-39 entering the fourth. The Warhawks remained ahead 52-47 with 4:20 left, but Centreville fought back to tie the game at 52 and again at 54.

Luke Scharkowski then made two free throws with 1:25 remaining, giving the Wildcats a 56-54 lead—their third and final advantage of the night. Madison pulled within one and had an opportunity to win at the buzzer, but Mason Burger’s jumper from the left baseline missed.

Madison committed 20 turnovers, including three during the closing stretch. Both teams left points at the foul line, each missing 11 free throws. Centreville missed five in the fourth quarter, while Madison missed three.

Jaxson Davis led Centreville with 24 points and three three-pointers. Jack Siwert scored 12, all on four three-pointers in the second half, and Maddox Davis supplied 10 points off the bench. Nicholas Hardy added six points and five rebounds, while Scharkowski finished with four points and four rebounds.

Michael Dinkelacker recorded 13 points, 12 rebounds and five assists for Madison. Ryan Furlong also scored 13 and grabbed eight rebounds, Burger had 11 points, and reserve William Feuchter contributed nine points and four rebounds. Hobbes Fiel added seven points.

The victory lifted Centreville’s boys to 7-6, while Madison dropped to 7-5.
