Neighborhood rivals Centreville and Chantilly will meet with first place in Concorde District girls basketball on the line Friday, Jan. 24.

The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Centreville. Both teams are 3-0 in district play, while Centreville is 11-2 overall and Chantilly is 10-4.

Each team remained unbeaten in the district with a recent victory. Chantilly edged previously undefeated Oakton 53-52 on the road, while Centreville overwhelmed South Lakes 53-18.

Junior center Alexandra Wilson delivered Chantilly’s decisive play against Oakton. With 49 seconds remaining, she scored off an assist from Amelia Hilton and made the ensuing free throw after being fouled, giving the Chargers a 53-51 lead.

Wilson also helped create the opportunity at the other end of the court by blocking a shot before Emerson Mustard collected the loose ball.

Oakton, now 14-1 overall and 2-1 in the district, opened an 8-2 lead. Chantilly responded with a 15-0 run and moved ahead 20-11.

The Cougars gradually recovered and took a 48-46 lead late in the fourth quarter when Molly Kenefick completed a three-point play following a pass from Sophie Toole. Chantilly ultimately answered to secure the one-point win.

Wilson, Alivia Tarry and Madeleine Bernet were among the Chargers’ other starters.

Chantilly’s previous district victories came against Madison, 45-31, and South Lakes, 48-36. Centreville also recently defeated Westfield 64-25 in district play.

Elsewhere in the Concorde District, Madison ended a two-game losing streak by beating Westfield 49-27. The Warhawks improved to 7-7 overall and 1-2 in the district.

Ava Wu led Madison with 16 points and five assists. Sara Becker added 13 points and three rebounds, Jada Ramos-Diggs finished with seven points and four rebounds, and Allison Creighton contributed four points and three rebounds.
