Fairfax County police are investigating after a man was found unresponsive in a Centreville roadway Saturday.
Officers responded near Route 29 and Rydell Road following reports of a man lying in the road. Police announced the death investigation at 3:22 p.m. Saturday.
Virginia health officials are also warning of another possible measles exposure at Washington Dulles International Airport. A person with measles traveled through the airport and rode a shuttle to the rental-car facilities on Saturday, Jan. 24.
The infection is Virginia’s fourth reported measles case of 2026, approaching the five cases recorded statewide during all of 2025.
Popes Head Road is scheduled to operate with one lane of alternating traffic between Revercomb Court and an area just east of Fairfax County Parkway on weekdays from Monday, Feb. 2, through Friday, Feb. 27, weather permitting.
Flaggers will direct vehicles through the work zone while crews relocate a water main for the Fairfax County Parkway and Popes Head Road interchange project. Drivers should anticipate delays and consider other routes.
A group of Buddhist monks making a 2,300-mile Walk for Peace from Texas to Washington, D.C., is expected to travel through Annandale, Falls Church and Seven Corners next week.
The monks departed the Dhammacetiya Temple in Fort Worth on Oct. 29. They plan to reach Washington on Feb. 11 and hold a Peace Gathering at the Lincoln Memorial at 2 p.m.
The Falls Church City Council is preparing to vote on a regional proposal that would increase annual Metro spending by $460 million. Arlington, Loudoun and Fairfax counties have already passed resolutions supporting the funding framework adopted by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority board last fall.
In Richmond, Virginia House Democrats advanced legislation Tuesday that would establish requirements for school systems choosing to teach about the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. The measure, backed by Del. Dan Helmer, would require relevant curricula to characterize the event as an unprecedented and violent attack on democratic institutions.
Fairfax City will share in $545,429 in opioid-abatement awards approved Jan. 20 for the city and Clarke, Franklin, Henrico and Patrick counties. The money, drawn from Virginia’s portion of national opioid settlements with manufacturers, distributors and retailers, will support new initiatives and expansions of existing programs.
