Driver Critically Hurt in Oakton Utility Pole Crash

An adult man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after his vehicle struck a utility pole on Hunter Mill Road in Oakton on Jan. 9, 2026, according to Fairfax County police.

An adult man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after his vehicle struck a utility pole on Hunter Mill Road in Oakton on Jan. 9, 2026, according to Fairfax County police.

The single-vehicle crash occurred just south of Lawyers Road. A Fairfax Alerts message indicated that the collision happened around 2 p.m.

The impact forced authorities to close the northbound side of Hunter Mill Road while crews responded and repaired the damaged electrical pole. Police reported at 3:16 p.m. that the northbound lanes were closed between Lawyers Road and Wickens Road. An earlier description of the closure identified the affected stretch as extending to Wilkins Road.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area and take alternate routes during the repair work. The road remained closed as of the initial report.

Police did not provide additional information about what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway or when the northbound lanes were expected to reopen.
