A kayaker suffered life-threatening injuries Sunday after falling into the Potomac River and being swept away near Great Falls. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer said three men were involved in the incident.

Health officials in Virginia and Washington, D.C., have confirmed a regional measles case involving a D.C. resident who traveled through Washington Dulles International Airport on April 23 and April 24.

A second lawsuit filed in Tazewell County Circuit Court is challenging a proposed Virginia constitutional amendment that would protect reproductive rights. The complaint alleges that the ballot language is misleading and raises arguments similar to an earlier case disputing the legality of the amendment process.

Attorneys for Brendan Banfield have asked a court to set aside his guilty verdict in the “au pair affair” double-murder trial. Banfield faces a mandatory life sentence, and arguments on the motion are expected during his sentencing hearing at 11 a.m. Friday, May 8.
