A State Department employee from Alexandria faces federal charges for allegedly joining a conspiracy to gather, transmit or lose national defense information. The 42-year-old man is accused of sharing classified material with people he met online in exchange for payments.

Metro is eliminating its Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion while seeking federal funding from the Trump administration. The transit agency will also dissolve its Office of Sustainability, with department head Rachel Healy moving into a new role as director of Energy and Environment.

The ramp connecting the George Washington Memorial Parkway to northbound Interstate 495 will close from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 11. Crews will use the closure to clear trees for the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension project.

George Mason University’s women’s basketball team is headed to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history. The Patriots defeated St. Joseph’s 73-58 on Sunday to win the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament, securing the milestone appearance in the program’s 51st year.

A 33-year-old Washington, D.C., man was sentenced in February to eight months in prison for a series of petit larcenies at grocery stores in Alexandria and Fairfax County. He was arrested Jan. 28 on four outstanding warrants in Alexandria and nine in Fairfax County.
