Fairfax County expanded its Capital Bikeshare network on Aug. 26, 2025, adding 10 stations and 70 electric bicycles to improve connections around the Huntington and Innovation Center Metro stations.

The new stations are located at:

  • Innovation Center Metro’s south entrance along Carta Way
  • Carta Way and Sayward Boulevard
  • Coppermine Road and River Birch Road
  • Dulles Technology Drive and Sunrise Valley Drive
  • McNair Farms Drive and Thomas Jefferson Drive
  • Woodland Park Road and Cooperative Way
  • Huntington Metro’s north entrance near Huntington Avenue
  • Huntington Avenue and Metroview Parkway
  • Huntington Avenue and Farrington Avenue
  • Huntington Avenue and Old Richmond Highway

Dranesville District Supervisor Jimmy Bierman said the expansion could give residents more commuting options while helping reduce the number of cars on Fairfax County roads.

“We have way too much traffic in Fairfax County and we need to get people out of their cars and off the roads to reduce the traffic for the people who do need to use the roads,” Bierman said. He added that Capital Bikeshare can ease traffic and improve commutes.

Designed for short, point-to-point trips, Capital Bikeshare arrived in Fairfax County in 2016 with 18 stations in Tysons and Reston. The county’s network has since grown to 94 stations and more than 500 classic and electric bicycles, with stations serving every Metrorail stop in the county.

Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck called the arrival of Capital Bikeshare in Huntington a significant step toward making local trips possible without a car, particularly for people who do not own vehicles or bicycles. He said the service could also reduce expenses, vehicle trips and environmental impacts.

Riders can purchase a single trip, a day pass or an annual membership. Discounted options are available to people who qualify through certain federal and state assistance programs.

Fairfax County riders can use the broader Capital Bikeshare system across Northern Virginia, the District of Columbia and Maryland. The regional network is jointly owned by Fairfax County, Arlington County, the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church, Prince George’s County, Montgomery County and the District of Columbia.

Across the region, Capital Bikeshare operates more than 800 stations and over 8,000 classic and electric bicycles.
