A Fairfax High School student faces nine assault-and-battery counts after girls accused him of groping them in school hallways. About a dozen girls have reported that the adult student, identified as Ortiz, touched their private areas and buttocks.

In Reston, a 35-year-old man was arrested Friday, March 13, after a Waterside at Reston Apartments resident reported seeing someone looking through her bedroom window. Fairfax County police said a drone helped officers quickly find a suspect who was also seen peering into other windows.

The man was charged with three counts of peeping and released on a personal recognizance bond.

The Kennedy Center’s board voted Monday to close the performing arts complex for two years after the July 4 celebrations this summer. The anticipated shutdown follows multiple resignations and cancellations during President Donald Trump’s second term. Trump has said repairs are needed.

Virginia legislation intended to increase accountability, oversight and transparency around Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations is headed to Gov. Abigail Spanberger. The bills cleared the General Assembly before the 2026 session ended Saturday, March 14. Spanberger has until 11:59 p.m. April 13 to sign, veto or amend them.

Some Virginia lawmakers are also questioning whether the state has taken on too many interim studies and commissions. State government is already sponsoring roughly 200 such initiatives created by the legislature and governor’s office, with pending legislation expected to add more.

A Fairfax woman is raising concerns about roadside safety after a tree fell on her car while she was driving on Mount Vernon Memorial Highway. The incident occurred one day after another falling tree killed a driver on the nearby George Washington Memorial Parkway.

In Falls Church, members of the Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club furnished and decorated an apartment off Route 29 on March 10 for a family moving out of a homeless shelter. The household includes two parents, a 5-year-old boy and a baby. The family will pay part of the rent, with Homestretch covering the remainder.

The Old Brogue Irish Pub in Great Falls marks St. Patrick’s Day on Tuesday, March 17, with its 45th annual festival. The event features live Irish music, traditional dancing, food and drinks, including Guinness.

Tuesday’s weather will turn increasingly cloudy, with a high near 40 degrees. West winds of 11 to 13 mph could gust as high as 23 mph. Skies should become mostly clear overnight as temperatures fall to around 27 degrees.
