Fairfax County Public Library is partnering with WETA to give residents easier access to thousands of hours of free educational and entertainment programming through the WETA+ streaming service.
WETA+ offers on-demand PBS and WETA programs selected with Washington-area audiences in mind. Its catalog covers local and national history, news, current affairs, documentaries, arts, food, travel, dramas and comedies.
Viewers can also stream WETA UK, WETA PBS, WETA Metro, WETA World and WETA PBS Kids live. The app is available on Roku, Apple TV and iOS, Fire TV, Samsung, LG, Google TV and Android platforms.
Throughout the year, the library will complement WETA+ shows with curated book recommendations and in-person programs connected to featured subjects and themes.
The partnership will launch with four events tied to the PBS premiere of “The American Revolution,” a six-part, 12-hour documentary series directed and produced by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt:
- Monday, Nov. 17, at 4 p.m. at Oakton Library
- Wednesday, Nov. 19, at noon at City of Fairfax Regional Library
- Thursday, Nov. 20, at 2 p.m. at Dolley Madison Library
- Friday, Nov. 21, at 3:30 p.m. at Sherwood Regional Library
Attendees can learn how to use WETA+, watch part of the documentary and borrow a recommended book. They may also sign up to receive a free Roku streaming device and customer support.
Most WETA+ programming is free, but some premium content—including select “Masterpiece” shows—requires a paid PBS Passport membership. The library and WETA do not generally provide that membership, although a limited number may be distributed during the partnership.
