Fairfax County Public Schools is advancing its comprehensive boundary review, with hybrid community meetings beginning in September and updated draft boundary scenarios expected by mid-October.

The Superintendent’s Boundary Review Advisory Committee met Sept. 3, 2025, at the Gatehouse Administration Center. Members reviewed academic programming, school proximity, transportation and the guiding principles behind the review.

Working groups also examined a consultant’s summary of their priorities and the possible implications of boundary changes. Their additional feedback will help determine the next steps.

The first part of Phase 2 recently concluded after officials gathered input through eight spring community meetings, the Boundary Explorer Tool and the Let’s Talk communications platform.

The second part will feature meetings that residents may attend in person or virtually through Zoom. Several locations were still being finalized when the schedule was released.

September meetings are planned for:

  • Sept. 15, 6:30-8 p.m., Justice High School
  • Sept. 16, 6:30-8 p.m., West Potomac High School
  • Sept. 17, 6:30-8 p.m., Oakton High School
  • Sept. 18, 6:30-8 p.m., location to be determined
  • Sept. 19, 12:30-2 p.m., location to be determined
  • Sept. 19, 6:30-8 p.m., location to be determined
  • Sept. 24, 6:30-8 p.m., location to be determined
  • Sept. 25, 6:30-8 p.m., location to be determined
  • Sept. 26, 6:30-8 p.m., location to be determined
  • Sept. 27, 6:30-8 p.m., location to be determined
  • Sept. 29, 6:30-8 p.m., location to be determined
  • Sept. 30, 6:30-8 p.m., location to be determined

The consultant is expected to update the Boundary Explorer Tool with the latest draft scenarios by mid-October. Those proposals will then be presented for public feedback during 12 additional meetings:

  • Oct. 13-17, 6:30-8 p.m. each day
  • Oct. 21-22, 6:30-8 p.m. each day
  • Oct. 24, 6:30-8 p.m.
  • Oct. 27-29, 6:30-8 p.m. each day
  • Oct. 30, 7-8:30 p.m.

Locations for the October sessions had not yet been announced.

The consultant will use comments submitted at the October meetings and through the Boundary Explorer Tool to revise the draft scenarios. The advisory committee will examine that feedback and any resulting changes in November before sending its recommendations to the superintendent.

After reviewing those recommendations, the superintendent plans to submit recommendations and a proposed implementation plan to the county’s elected education panel in January 2026.

The boundary review is intended to address enrollment growth, distribute students more evenly among available school facilities, promote student wellness and respond to changing community needs.
