Fairfax County Public Schools will remain closed Wednesday as crews continue cleaning up 6 to 10 inches of snow left by Monday’s storm.
The closure gives students a third additional day of winter break. Extracurricular activities, athletic practices, field trips, adult education classes and other programs held on school grounds are also canceled. School Age Child Care centers will remain closed.
School offices will open to the public at 11 a.m. Employees are expected to report to work, depending on safety and childcare concerns.
Although no additional snowfall is forecast Wednesday, temperatures could fall as low as 19 degrees overnight. The National Weather Service warned that melted snow and ice may refreeze, creating hazardous road conditions.
The weather service also sees a slight possibility of another winter storm this weekend. Its forecast calls for a 70% chance of snow in Fairfax County on Friday night, Jan. 10, followed by a 40% chance on Saturday, Jan. 11.
