Fairfax County Public Schools held an information session Wednesday night for federal workers seeking new employment after losing their jobs. The district aimed to identify transferable skills that could help the workers move into school system roles as mass federal firings affect the Washington metropolitan area.

An Edison High School student was charged after allegedly bringing a gun to school Thursday morning. The student reportedly displayed the weapon to classmates, and one notified a school resource officer. Authorities arrested a 16-year-old and confiscated the gun. No injuries were reported.

A 19-year-old Arlington man awaiting trial for his alleged involvement in a 2023 stabbing has been arrested on a robbery charge. He is among four suspects accused of stealing more than $300 in merchandise from a Falls Church liquor store on Jan. 17.

The Trump administration’s dismissal of hundreds of recently hired National Park Service employees could reduce hours and services at Virginia attractions. Sites potentially affected include Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts and the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park, which generate an estimated $32 million and $96 million, respectively, in tourism revenue for Virginia.

Keith Gordon, who became president and CEO of the Workhouse Arts Center last summer, is outlining his ambitions for the 55-acre property. Gordon said he had often considered the site’s potential while driving past it with his son on their way to baseball games, describing the center as a “diamond in the rough” with a story still waiting to be told.

Fairfax County’s annual Black History Month Celebration is scheduled for Friday from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the county government center. Speeches and entertainment will highlight Black history in Fairfax County while celebrating perseverance and resilience.

Young Lego enthusiasts can enter the 2025 Mini Master Model Builder competition in Springfield through March 2. The regional winner will receive the DMV’s Mini Master Model Builder title and travel to Billund, Denmark, for a chance to become the first Global Mini Master Model Builder.

Friday’s forecast calls for sunny, breezy weather and a high near 37 degrees. Northwest winds of 17 to 20 mph could gust as high as 32 mph. Skies should remain mostly clear overnight as temperatures fall to about 22, with winds easing to 5 to 10 mph and gusts reaching 18 mph.
