Fairfax County Public Schools has again been named one of the nation’s Best Communities for Music Education, marking the school division’s 12th time receiving the recognition.

The NAMM Foundation selected FCPS among 935 school districts honored in 2025. Now in its 26th year, the designation recognizes districts that demonstrate exceptional commitment to making music education available to all students.

Districts are evaluated on music program funding, graduation requirements, student participation, instructional time, facilities and community support.

FCPS schools, ensembles and instructors have also earned recognition nationally and internationally. Student ensembles perform at state and national conferences, while schools have received distinctions including the Sudler Flag of Honor, Sudler Cup and Honor Band recognition. FCPS programs have also earned induction into the National Band Association and participated in the Midwest Clinic.

Music teachers throughout the school division regularly present at national conferences, receive awards at the local, state and national levels, and earn national board certification.
