Fairfax County Public Schools has again been named one of the nation’s Best Communities for Music Education, marking the district’s 13th time receiving the designation.

The National Association of Music Merchants Foundation included FCPS among 1,008 school districts recognized in 2026. Now in its 27th year, the program honors districts that demonstrate a strong commitment to making music education available to all students.

Evaluations consider funding, graduation requirements, participation in music classes, instructional time, facilities and community support.

FCPS student ensembles regularly appear at state and national conferences organized by groups including the Virginia Music Educators Association, American String Teachers Association, National Band Association, Music For All and National Association for Music Education.

The school system also holds one of the country’s few All-County Chorus events and connects students with performances by the National Symphony Orchestra and other professional groups.

FCPS schools have earned distinctions including the Sudler Flag of Honor, Sudler Cup and Honor Band recognition. They have also received invitations to perform at the Midwest Clinic and recognition from the National Band Association.

Music educators across the district frequently present at national conferences, receive state and national awards, earn National Board Certification and gain recognition from the GRAMMY Association.
