A nationally ranked Christopher Newport University women’s basketball team will bring several Fairfax County high school graduates back to Northern Virginia for a Division III matchup against Marymount University in Arlington.

The Newport News-based Captains enter the Jan. 8 contest with a 14-1 record and the No. 9 spot in the latest D3hoops.com Division III poll. New York University holds the nation’s top ranking.

Oakton High School graduates Hannah Kaloi and Caitlin Crump are among Christopher Newport’s local players. Kaloi, a senior forward, averages 6.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Crump, a sophomore center/forward, averages 3.4 points and has recorded 21 assists this season.

Oakton girls basketball coach Fred Priester, who coached both players in high school, plans to bring his current team to the game.

“They both are a big part of the [Christopher Newport] team, so it will be fun to see them play in person,” Priester said.

The Captains’ other Fairfax County contributors include South County graduate Gabbi San Diego, a fifth-year senior guard averaging 4.1 points with 26 assists, and South Lakes graduate Jessica Dornak, a sophomore forward averaging 2.1 points.

Westfield graduate Emma O’Connor averages 6.1 points as a freshman forward, while Lake Braddock graduate Sarah Pritz contributes 4.4 points per game in her freshman season. Meridian graduate Elizabeth Creed, also a freshman forward, averages 8.3 points and has collected 23 steals.

Marymount enters the game with a 3-9 record. The Saints have no Fairfax County high school graduates on their roster, but they feature four players from the Prince William County area and one from Loudoun County.
