A Fairfax County police operation targeting child exploitation led to 10 arrests after investigators said most of the suspects traveled to the county intending to have illegal encounters with minors.

The six-day enforcement effort was conducted by the Police Department’s Major Crimes Bureau and its Child Exploitation Unit.

Elsewhere in Virginia, opponents of a Democratic mid-decade redistricting proposal are warning that it could concentrate political influence in Fairfax County. Signs reading “Don’t Fairfax Me” and “Vote No” have appeared in rural communities, while Del. Wren Williams coined “Fairfaxphobia” to describe fears that state policy could become less aligned with rural areas.

Gov. Abigail Spanberger also issued an unusual clarification Monday, saying she had not signed dozens of tax bills because the General Assembly never passed them and they never reached her desk. Her statement followed President Donald Trump’s social media accusation that she had imposed a wave of new taxes.

Spanberger separately vetoed Senate Bill 661 on Friday, April 10. The measure would have legalized as many as 25,000 skill-game machines across Virginia. The machines resemble slots and require wagers, but include elements of player skill.

Northern Virginia school systems, meanwhile, are wrestling with how to adopt artificial intelligence without compromising academic ethics or standards. Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Michelle Reid said educators face the challenge of staying ahead of a rapidly changing AI landscape.

In Manassas, the City Council voted unanimously Monday night to change the name of Manassas Regional Airport to Washington Manassas Airport. City leaders believe the new identity will strengthen its regional profile ahead of potential commercial airline service. Federal Aviation Administration approval is still required.

A longtime Annandale family has opened Frontline Auto Plus at 4321 Ravensworth Road. The Cadima family purchased the former Ravensworth Automotive service station after its previous owner retired, and the new shop opened April 8.

In Chantilly, a Bank a Million ticket purchased at the Giant Food store at 25050 South Riding Plaza won the top prize in Saturday’s drawing. Lottery officials said the prize is expected to leave the winner with $1 million after taxes.

Tuesday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high near 89 degrees. Southwest winds are expected to reach 5 to 10 mph, with possible gusts of 18 mph. The night should be partly cloudy, with a low around 69 and southwest winds of 5 to 7 mph.
