Fairfax Student Turns Curtains Into Audrey Hepburn-Inspired Fashion

Fairfax High School senior Annaliese Gonzalez unveiled an Audrey Hepburn-inspired dress during a Women’s History Month celebration March 11 at Fairfax City Hall.

Gonzalez, a student in Fairfax Academy’s fashion program, said her research revealed another side of Hepburn’s life. After her acting career, Hepburn advocated for children’s rights and served as a United Nations ambassador.

The student began designing clothing and creating costumes in eighth grade. For her latest piece, she repurposed sustainable materials from a tablecloth and curtain.

Gonzalez and other Fashion Careers students will present their work at Fairfax Academy’s annual “Fashion in Motion” show. The event is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Sherwood Community Center, 3740 Blenheim Blvd. in Fairfax.

The fashion show is part of the city’s Spotlight on the Arts event.
