Fairfax County Public Schools and offices will reopen Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, with a two-hour delay as crews continue addressing secondary-road conditions.
The delay will put walkers and buses on the road after sunrise, improving motorists’ ability to see students. The Virginia Department of Transportation will work overnight and into the morning to improve secondary roads.
Student drivers are urged to allow extra time or consider taking the bus. Families should make their own safety decisions because some roads, sidewalks and bus stops may not yet be completely clear.
Morning special education preschool classes and morning field trips are canceled. Afternoon preschool will begin on its regular schedule, while full-day special education preschool and Early Head Start/Pre-K classes will start two hours late.
Morning transportation to high school academy classes is canceled. Transportation will be available for academy classes beginning after 12:45 p.m.
Adult High School and GED courses will start two hours late, while Adult and Community Education classes will begin on time. Homebound and home-based instruction will start at 10 a.m.
School Age Child Care centers will open at 8 a.m., and central offices will open to the public at 10 a.m.
Superintendent Michelle Reid thanked employees for preparing schools to reopen safely and providing meal kits to students during the week’s closures.
