More than 21,200 Dominion Energy customers in Fairfax County lost power as thunderstorms swept through the region on June 12, 2026.
By 8 p.m., most outages were concentrated in eastern Fairfax County, including the Vienna and West Falls Church areas. Customers in Fair Oaks were also affected. Dominion’s outage map did not yet list estimated restoration times for most outages.
The National Weather Service warned that the line of storms could produce wind gusts of up to 70 mph. By 7:30 p.m., the strongest portion of the storm cell had shifted toward Alexandria.
A severe thunderstorm watch remained in effect across the Washington region until 9 p.m.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue reported receiving numerous calls about trees and wires brought down as the storms moved through. The department advised residents to call or text 911 when there is an immediate threat to life.
People should stay clear of downed wires and report them to Dominion Energy at 1-866-366-4357 or NOVEC at 703-335-0500.
If a tree falls onto a home, everyone inside should evacuate before calling 911. Trees and limbs blocking sidewalks can generally be reported to the Virginia Department of Transportation, which maintains most Fairfax County roads.
