Flint Hill’s boys swimming and diving team captured its second consecutive Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference championship behind five race victories and a deep collection of top-five finishes.
The Huskies scored 162.5 points at the private-school league meet Saturday, Jan. 25, at Catholic University. Neighborhood rival Potomac School finished second with 127 points.
Coach Ashley DeWolf credited the repeat title to the team’s depth and swimmers’ willingness to take on whatever roles were needed. She said the Huskies came together at key moments, with several swimmers producing significant personal-best times.
Lucas Bermudez led Flint Hill with four victories. He won the 100-yard freestyle in 49.5 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 56.32, then contributed to victories in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. The Huskies recorded times of 1:41.91 and 1:32.95 in those events, respectively.
Todd Landwehr won the 50 freestyle in 22.39 and placed third in the 100 freestyle. He also swam on both victorious relays.
Kai Lindros, Zachary Tan and Thomas Carstater completed the winning relay lineups alongside Bermudez and Landwehr.
Flint Hill accumulated points throughout the meet. Keagan Murdock finished second in the backstroke and third in the 500 freestyle, while Lindros took second in the 200 freestyle and fourth in the backstroke. Beckett Cummins placed third in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 200 individual medley.
Nate Jurutka was third in the 200 freestyle and fifth in the 100 freestyle. Blake Nguyen finished fourth in the 100 butterfly and fifth in the 500 freestyle, while Tan placed fourth in the breaststroke and sixth in the individual medley.
Carstater added a fourth-place finish in the 50 freestyle and took sixth in the breaststroke. Bradley Zhao was fifth in both the individual medley and butterfly, Wesley Zhao finished fifth in the 200 freestyle and sixth in the butterfly, and Dylan Riihimaki placed seventh in the 50 freestyle.
Diver Cian Gallagher contributed a third-place finish, and Flint Hill’s 400 freestyle relay came in sixth.
Potomac School mounted a strong challenge with five individual victories of its own. Henry Rossman won the individual medley in 1:59.23 and the 500 freestyle in 4:43.22. Luka Beslic swept the butterfly and breaststroke, recording times of 52.35 and 59.28.
Jasper Majeed-Hall won the 200 freestyle in 1:56.01 and placed fourth in the 100 freestyle. Gus Tierney was second in the 50 freestyle and sixth in the 100 freestyle, while Aden Travers finished fourth in both the 200 and 500 freestyle.
Erim Ozcan placed sixth in the 50 freestyle and seventh in the butterfly. Michael Steves was seventh in both the individual medley and backstroke, Sahil Sardar earned two top-10 finishes, Will Priester took 10th in the individual medley, and Nicholas Derisca finished 10th in the 200 freestyle.
Potomac diver Jack Pinkus placed second.
The Panthers closed the meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay. Rossman, Travers, Majeed-Hall and Beslic finished in 3:27.79. Potomac also placed second in the medley and 200 freestyle relays.
