Tysons has become FlixBus’ first stop in Fairfax County, adding direct intercity bus service to Richmond and the Bethesda-to-New York City corridor.
Service launches Thursday from Gosnell Road at Leesburg Pike. The stop will handle three daily trips in each direction along the Bethesda-New York route and two daily trips to and from Richmond.
Its location near the Greensboro Metro station also gives travelers a connection to Dulles International Airport.
FlixBus is expanding elsewhere in Northern Virginia with a new Fredericksburg stop. On peak days, that location will offer as many as seven trips in each direction serving Washington, Richmond and New York City.
Karina Frayter, head of communications for Flix North America, called the Washington metropolitan area one of the company’s leading markets and said the additional stops would make its buses accessible to millions more people in Northern Virginia.
FlixBus primarily operates in the D.C. area from Union Station and already stops in Bethesda and Arlington. Greyhound, which Flix’s parent company acquired in 2021, also has service in Springfield at the Franconia Metro station, 6770 Frontier Drive, and in Woodbridge.
Flix North America says its combined network is now the country’s largest for intercity buses, carrying more than 12 million passengers annually through over 1,800 stops in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The company offers free Wi-Fi, guaranteed seats and complimentary storage for one piece of luggage plus a backpack or duffel bag.
Fares vary by route and demand. At press time, a same-day ticket for one adult traveling from Tysons to New York cost $23.98. The least expensive Tysons-to-Bethesda trip was $7.48, with an estimated travel time of 45 minutes.
The new service joins a Fairfax Connector express route between Tysons and Bethesda that began in 2024 in anticipation of the extended I-495 Express Lanes, which opened last fall. That route charges a $4.80 base fare, with half-price fares available to older adults and people with disabilities.
