Former NBA player Delonte West has been charged with robbery and simple assault following an alleged incident in Fairfax County.

Police responded around 6:40 a.m. on Dec. 21 to the 5900 block of Richmond Highway in Belle Haven. After speaking with the reported victim, officers located West nearby.

West, 42, was taken to the Fairfax County jail and later released on a $1,000 bond on Dec. 30. Court documents show he is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in March.

The arrest follows previous legal and substance-abuse troubles. In 2024, West was arrested after a high-speed chase and received Narcan for a suspected drug overdose.

A Prince George’s County, Maryland, native, West became a standout basketball player at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt. He was selected in the first round of the 2004 NBA Draft and spent several seasons as a starter for the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers.

West finished his NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks in 2012.
