Four pedestrians were killed on Fairfax County roads in less than two days, raising the county’s pedestrian death toll for 2026 to 10 — matching the total recorded during all of 2023.

The latest fatal crash occurred around 3:38 a.m. Friday, June 19, at Little River Turnpike and Southland Avenue in Lincolnia. Police said 73-year-old Stephen Roberts of Alexandria was crossing the turnpike when an eastbound 2018 Honda Civic struck him.

Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene. Eastbound Little River Turnpike was closed at the intersection during the investigation.

The Honda’s driver continued briefly before entering a nearby parking lot and calling 911, police said. Officers located the driver and reported detecting signs of alcohol-related impairment, prompting the department’s Driving While Intoxicated Enforcement Squad to take over the investigation.

Police arrested Claudio Medina Osorio, 19, of Alexandria and charged him with driving while intoxicated. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and held without bond. Investigators are still determining whether speed contributed to the crash.

The Lincolnia collision followed two fatal pedestrian crashes Thursday evening, one near the Mosaic District in Merrifield and another in Seven Corners.

Around 6 p.m., 38-year-old Sean King of Falls Church was walking on a sidewalk beside a Leesburg Pike service road near Munson Hill Road when an eastbound 2008 Toyota Prius left the roadway and struck him. King was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Police initially said a second pedestrian had been struck without being injured, but later clarified that King was the only pedestrian involved. The Prius driver remained at the scene. Investigators said neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be a factor, while the reason the car left the road remained under investigation.

Another crash occurred around 8:50 p.m. on Gallows Road at Strawberry Lane. Police said 68-year-old Jose Sorto Medrano of Annandale was apparently crossing Gallows Road outside a crosswalk when the driver of a southbound 2022 BMW X5 struck him.

Sorto Medrano died after being taken to a hospital. The driver stayed at the scene. Police said their preliminary investigation indicated that speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors for the driver, although alcohol was believed to be a factor for the pedestrian.

The string of deaths began around 1:43 a.m. Thursday on Richmond Highway at Fort Hunt Road in Huntington. Investigators said 64-year-old Jerry Harris of Alexandria was struck first by a 2019 Nissan Rogue and then by a 2018 Toyota RAV4. That crash remains under investigation.

Preliminary state figures show Fairfax County’s 10 pedestrian deaths so far in 2026 equal its total for all of 2023. The county recorded 18 pedestrian fatalities in 2024, including six in September, followed by 14 in 2025.
