Fairfax Library Foundation will bring back its free Children’s Summer Reading Festival on Saturday, June 13, offering books, entertainment and hands-on activities intended to keep children reading during summer break.
The fourth annual festival will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway in Fairfax. It is geared toward preschool- and school-age children and seeks to help prevent summer learning loss.
Created in partnership with Fairfax County Public Library, the event will feature face painting, bounce houses, balloon and caricature artists, games, crafts, a petting zoo and live entertainment. Food trucks will also be available.
More than 8,000 Fairfax County children and family members have attended the festival since it began in 2023. During that period, enrollment in the library system’s Summer Reading Program rose 60%, reaching a record 23,611 signups in 2025.
Fairfax Library Foundation has supported programs and services at Fairfax County Public Library since 1994. The charitable and educational nonprofit helps expand access to information, technology, civic engagement, entertainment, literacy programs and educational opportunities.
