A head-on collision involving Fairfax Connector and OmniRide buses injured 23 people near the Pentagon shortly before 7:30 a.m. Friday, April 24.
Emergency crews transported 18 people to local hospitals for further evaluation, while five others were treated at the scene. Ten of those injured are Defense Department employees.
The buses collided in the transit loop at the Pentagon Metro station’s south parking lot in Arlington. Video from the scene captured the impact.
The crash disrupted transit service for several hours and prompted the closure of Metro Access Road while investigators examined the scene. The Pentagon Force Protection Agency announced shortly after 11 a.m. that normal operations had resumed at the Metro station and transit center, though commuters were advised to check for lingering delays.
The Fairfax County Department of Transportation did not identify which Fairfax Connector route was involved. Several Connector routes, including express services, stop at the Pentagon.
Fairfax Connector personnel were cooperating with authorities and other transit agencies in response to the collision. Pentagon Police are investigating, and the cause remained unclear.
