A Lorton man was arrested after a license plate reader alerted Fairfax County police to a vehicle stolen during a burglary at a Fairfax Station church, authorities said Monday.
Officers were called to the church in the 4900 block of Ox Road at about 10 a.m. Thursday. Police said 30-year-old Akuamoa Boateng entered the building by breaking a rear sliding glass door, then damaged and stole property inside.
Detectives also determined that a vehicle belonging to the church had been taken.
Soon after the burglary, police received a license plate reader alert for the stolen vehicle. Officers responded to the 7900 block of Ladson Lane in Hybla Valley, where they located the vehicle and identified Boateng as its driver, according to police.
Additional property stolen from the church was found inside the vehicle, police said.
Boateng was charged with burglary, auto theft, larceny with intent to sell, felony destruction and drug possession. He was being held at the Fairfax County jail.
