Metro recorded some of its heaviest weekday ridership since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020 during the first two days of the week. The increase coincided with federal workers returning to offices, warmer weather and strong demand for events such as Washington Capitals games.

Fairfax County will begin a menstrual-product donation drive Saturday, March 1. New, sealed packages of tampons, pads, liners and menstrual cups will be accepted through March 31 at every library branch, the Fairfax County Government Center and other county facilities. Donations will support local shelters and nonprofit organizations.

Falls Church officials are monitoring approximately $50 million in previously approved federal grants amid efforts to reduce federal spending. City Manager Wyatt Shields said about half of the pending money is connected to transportation projects, while the rest covers affordable housing, stormwater work and other areas.

Friday’s forecast calls for sunshine and a high near 54 degrees. Northwest winds of 10 to 15 mph will shift southwest during the afternoon, with gusts potentially reaching 25 mph. Clouds will increase overnight as the temperature falls to around 44 degrees.
