Mount Vernon-area voters will help decide the direction of Virginia’s government in the Nov. 4, 2025, general election, with control of the governorship and House of Delegates at stake.
The results could shape state policy for the next two years on climate change, renewable energy, abortion and reproductive rights, taxes, the cost of living, public education and school funding.
Democrats are seeking to capture the governor’s office and retain control of the House of Delegates. The party already controls the state Senate, where seats are not being contested this year. Republicans are aiming to prevent Democrats from securing broader control of state government.
Vote totals, including those in uncontested races, could also be viewed as indicators of support for or opposition to policies coming from Washington.
Mount Vernon-area voters will select a House of Delegates candidate based on their legislative district and address.
In House District 16, the candidates are Democrat Paul E. Krizek, Republican Richard Hayden and independent Shelly M. Arnoldi.
In House District 17, Democratic Del. Mark D. Sickles faces Republican challenger Naomi Mesfin. Neither Sickles nor Mesfin responded to a candidate questionnaire by press time.
Virginia voters will also choose the commonwealth’s next governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general. Official registration, polling-place and election information is available through the Fairfax County Office of Elections.
