Nearly 2,000 community members, including more than 500 students, attended the third annual FCPS Summer Extravaganza for a day of interactive learning and family activities.
The event connected students and families with FCPS staff and community partners while encouraging learning beyond the classroom. Organized by the Office of Community Relations, it offered activities designed to inspire curiosity and creativity during the summer.
Students from Greenbriar West Elementary School and Lake Braddock Secondary School performed for attendees. A Falls Church High School alumnus also presented several reptiles and shared his interest in wildlife education with young learners.
STEM activities included robotics demonstrations led by the Herndon High School Robotics team, a drone obstacle course, artificial intelligence exercises, coding challenges, and hands-on engineering and design projects provided by community and industry partners.
The event was supported by 55 student volunteers and 25 adult volunteers. Participating FCPS offices included Human Resources, Communications, Food and Nutrition Services, Information Technology, Ombuds, Family and School Partnerships, and Safety and Security.
Sponsors and supporters included Educate Fairfax, Fairfax County VA250, the Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation, Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services, Apple Federal Credit Union, the Fairfax County Public Library, and the Fairfax County Health Department.
