A 44-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in Vienna early Friday, prompting road closures and delays along Maple Avenue during the morning commute.

Vienna police responded around 6:15 a.m. to the intersection of Nutley Street SW and Maple Avenue West. The vehicle was traveling north on Maple Avenue when it struck the pedestrian.

Northbound Maple Avenue toward Tysons remained closed for much of the morning rush hour before reopening around 8:50 a.m. Westbound Nutley Street between Maple Avenue and Courthouse Road was also temporarily shut down, while Maple Avenue’s southbound lanes stayed open.

Police said the crash was not a hit-and-run. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the crash or recorded video of it is asked to contact Detective Steve Simon at steve.simon@viennava.gov.
