Fairfax County police have made arrests in two burglary and larceny sprees, but detectives are still searching for a man suspected in four other crimes across Seven Corners, Bailey’s Crossroads and Tysons.
The unsolved series began with a commercial burglary reported at 8:48 a.m. Jan. 1 in the 6300 block of Leesburg Pike in Seven Corners. A witness told police that a man broke into a business, took a cash drawer and escaped in a red Toyota Corolla with three hubcaps missing.
A second burglary was reported Jan. 2 in the 3500 block of Carlin Springs Road in Bailey’s Crossroads.
Police believe the same man later committed two larcenies in Tysons on Jan. 9. One occurred in the 8200 block of Watson Street, and the other was reported at Tysons West shopping center, 1500 Cornerside Blvd.
Detectives connected the four incidents through security footage that repeatedly showed the distinctive red Corolla. Police are asking the public to help identify the suspect.
Suspect charged in seven gym thefts
In a separate investigation, the Metropolitan Police Department arrested a 49-year-old Springfield man on Jan. 21 in connection with seven larcenies at Fairfax County gyms.
Police said victims’ lockers were forced open and personal belongings were stolen. Their credit cards were then fraudulently used at nearby businesses.
Four of the thefts were reported Dec. 1 at gyms in the 7700 block of Richmond Highway in Hybla Valley and the 5900 block of Richmond Highway in Huntington.
Investigators also linked the man to three Springfield thefts, including two reported Dec. 16 in the 8400 block of Old Keene Mill Road.
He faces charges of credit card theft, identity fraud, petit larceny and misdemeanor destruction of property. He remained in a Washington, D.C., jail awaiting extradition to Fairfax County.
Woodlawn man held without bond
Police also arrested a 24-year-old Woodlawn man accused of breaking into two businesses in the 8500 block of Richmond Highway overnight from Jan. 8 to Jan. 9 and stealing cash and merchandise.
After examining surveillance video, detectives linked him to another burglary in the same block on Dec. 30.
The man was arrested Jan. 25 and charged with three counts of burglary. He remained at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond and was scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 22.
