A fight over one of New York City’s dwindling rent-stabilized apartments comes to Tysons when 1st Stage presents Stephen Adly Guirgis’ Between Riverside and Crazy from Feb. 19 through March 8, 2026.

The dark comedy centers on Walter “Pops” Washington, a widowed former police officer living with his recently paroled son, Junior. Pops faces mounting pressure as the NYPD seeks his signature to resolve an outstanding lawsuit, his landlord tries to remove him and church representatives continue showing up.

Old grievances, questionable new houseguests and a final ultimatum intensify the struggle over Pops’ longtime home. Guirgis, who also wrote Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train, received the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Between Riverside and Crazy.

José Carrasquillo directs the Tysons production. The cast features returning 1st Stage performers Dylan Arredondo, Fabiolla da Silva, Chris Genebach, Ellis Greer, Shawn Sebastian Naar, William T. Newman Jr. and Hannah Taylor.

The creative team includes scenic designer Tony Cisek, lighting designer William D’Eugenio, sound designer Sarah O’Halloran, costume designer Moyenda Kulemeka and props designer Justin Nepomuceno. Lorraine Ressegger serves as intimacy coach.

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays. The production runs approximately two hours, including a 15-minute intermission. Captions and audio description will be available at select performances.

General-admission tickets are dynamically priced at $25, $40 and $55, with limited availability at the two lower prices. Tickets for students, educators and military members cost $15.
