A resident and a dog were rescued early Friday as firefighters battled a two-alarm house fire on Turkey Run Road in McLean.
Crews were dispatched to the 900 block of Turkey Run Road around 12:49 a.m. after a caller reported hearing an explosion. The caller, who was on the second floor, told dispatchers they had mobility issues, could not get outside and had a dog in the home.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the front of the large, multistory house near Langley High School. They located the fire in the garage and began attacking the flames while searching the rest of the property.
Crews helped the resident and dog escape before conditions worsened. The resident was hospitalized with injuries that Fairfax County Fire and Rescue described as not life-threatening.
A second alarm brought additional personnel to assist with extinguishing the fire, searching the house and ventilating the building. Firefighters largely contained the blaze to the garage, with only limited spread into the home.
No firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
