The Northern Virginia Senior Olympics will return Sept. 13-30, 2025, with several new competitions following record participation the previous year.
More than 70 events are planned, with duplicate bridge, Texas Hold’em poker and the 50-yard butterfly joining the lineup. NVSO Chair Rod Hupp said organizers hope to set another participation record.
Online registration will run from July 7 through Aug. 29. Competitors must be at least 50 years old and live in one of the sponsoring jurisdictions.
The $20 registration fee covers an unlimited number of events, according to registration chairman Herb Levitan.
Competitions will take place at 29 venues across Northern Virginia. Indoor and outdoor options will range from track and field, swimming and pickleball to Scrabble, sudoku, croquet and jigsaw puzzles.
Most events are divided by gender and into five- or 10-year age groups. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded after each competition.
Sponsors include Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun and Prince William counties, as well as the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church.
Gold-level supporters announced to date are AARP Virginia, Adobe, CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield, Goodwin Living, Johns Hopkins Health Plan, Retirement Unlimited Inc., The Beacon Newspapers, The Woodlands Retirement Community, United Health Care and Vinson Hall Retirement Community.
