Eleven passengers suffered injuries that were not considered serious or life-threatening after a Metro work vehicle collided with a Silver Line train at Metro Center early Wednesday.
Elsewhere, a Tazewell County Circuit Court judge blocked the State Board of Elections from certifying Tuesday’s special-election results. Virginia voters had narrowly approved a redrawn congressional map, but Attorney General Jay Jones said his office would appeal the ruling.
Gov. Abigail Spanberger must decide whether to veto several major Democratic bills after the General Assembly rejected some of her proposed changes. Lawmakers accepted most of her amendments but declined recommendations involving prescription drug prices, an assault weapons ban, retail cannabis sales and public-sector unions.
Opponents of Virginia’s new congressional maps gathered Tuesday night at Lil Havana Cigar Club in McLean to watch the referendum results. The maps are expected to give Democrats an advantage in 10 of Virginia’s 11 congressional districts.
At the federal level, Deputy Transportation Secretary Steven Bradbury announced a “Freedom to Drive” initiative focused on congestion relief. Governors will be asked to identify several of their states’ worst traffic bottlenecks and propose specific remedies.
Fairfax County Public Schools will hold additional community meetings about districtwide boundary changes approved in January but temporarily postponed for more public engagement. A meeting about possible changes involving Bren Mar Park Elementary School is scheduled for Friday, while Glasgow Middle School will be discussed Tuesday, April 28.
A new Yemeni coffee shop is also taking shape in Falls Church. Owner and founder Abdulrahman Al Harethi hopes to open Rashfa Cafe at 310 S. Washington Street in June. The cafe plans to serve coffee sourced from Yemen alongside rawani cake, sabayah pastries and honeycomb bread.
In Tysons, the Hershey Super Sweet Adventure pop-up is scheduled to open Friday, April 24, following months of anticipation.
Thursday’s forecast calls for sunshine, a high near 81 degrees and northwest winds of 3 to 7 mph. Skies will become partly cloudy overnight as temperatures fall to around 58 degrees.
