Students in kindergarten through sixth grade across Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia can submit original handmade artwork for a chance to have it displayed on a Metro bus wrap this Earth Day.
The theme, “50 Years of Metro: Our Earth, Our Pride, Our Future,” recognizes Metro’s 50th anniversary on March 27. Students are encouraged to illustrate how public transportation can promote cleaner air and reduce traffic on area roads.
Selected entries will appear on the special bus, and all winning pieces will be showcased during an April 22 event.
Submissions are due Monday, March 2, 2026. Participation details are available at wmata.com/earthday.
Metro serves approximately 4 million people across a 2,054-square-mile area spanning the District, Maryland and Virginia. Its network includes six rail lines, 98 stations, 126 bus routes and door-to-door paratransit service. The system provided more than 268.9 million trips in 2025.
