PFC Henry Viar was named the Sully District Police Station’s Officer of the Year during the Citizens Advisory Committee’s Feb. 11 meeting, adding to Officer of the Quarter honors he received in 2020 and 2022.
Second Lt. Chad Cosgrove nominated Viar on behalf of Sully Days A Shift, describing him as one of the squad’s most active and dependable officers. Viar’s performance ranked in the top third of the team.
Through July 2025, Viar had handled 229 calls for service, responded to 66 incidents and made 15 arrests. His traffic enforcement included 162 citations and 16 warnings.
During the year’s “Roadshark” campaigns, Viar stopped three separate drivers traveling faster than 100 mph. The Public Affairs Bureau highlighted those stops in campaigns promoting road safety.
Viar also served as a Field Training Instructor and trained three rookie officers over the previous year while maintaining his own workload.
Cosgrove further praised Viar’s professionalism and judgment in a sensitive, high-profile case involving a commonwealth’s attorney who was found drinking. He said Viar handled the public, high-pressure situation impartially.
Calling Viar a model of proactive policing, mentorship and integrity, Cosgrove said the officer’s performance and leadership made him highly deserving of the annual honor.
