Fairfax County authorities are asking the public to identify several people seen near an Urban Search and Rescue training facility around the time a fire engulfed a storage building filled with commercial equipment.

Firefighters responded to the facility in the 9900 block of Furnace Road in Lorton at approximately 5:20 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2026, after reports of a large column of black smoke. Crews arrived to find the storage facility fully involved in flames.

No civilians or firefighters were injured.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause, while the Fairfax County Police Department is conducting a criminal investigation. Surveillance footage shows several individuals at the property around the time of the blaze.

The facility supports training for Fairfax County’s Urban Search and Rescue team, helping its members remain ready for disaster responses worldwide. The team is currently assisting with recovery efforts following the Venezuela earthquake.
