A juvenile suspect faces several felony charges after a verbal dispute at Springfield Mall escalated into gunfire Thursday evening, leaving a man hospitalized.
Fairfax County police responded around 5:34 p.m. to the 6500 block of Springfield Mall. Officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound and took him to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Investigators said the suspect allegedly drew a gun and fired during an argument with the victim, then fled before officers arrived. Police later located and arrested the suspect inside a mall parking garage.
The suspect was taken to the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center. Police announced Sunday that the juvenile had been charged with aggravated malicious wounding, using a firearm in the commission of a felony, discharging a firearm inside a building, removing or altering a serial number, and possessing a firearm while under 18.
The juvenile remains in custody pending a detention hearing.
Officers also arrested a second juvenile in connection with an associated assault and recovered a firearm at the scene.
