An electrical event involving a Tesla Charger caused a house fire that displaced six people in Burke early Friday, Sept. 26, 2025, investigators determined.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department crews responded around 3:30 a.m. to the 6600 block of Mainsail Court. They arrived to find flames coming through the roof of an attached garage at a single-family home.
Firefighters quickly attacked the blaze and searched the house. No residents or firefighters were injured.
All six occupants escaped before crews arrived. One resident smelled smoke, investigated and discovered the fire in the garage. Although the house had working smoke alarms, the flames were found before the alarms activated.
Investigators with the Office of the Fire Marshal traced the fire to a stud bay inside an exterior garage wall. They determined that an electrical event involving a Tesla Charger caused the blaze.
The six residents were displaced and accepted assistance from the Red Cross. Damage was estimated at $128,223.
