Six people escaped a Burke home early Friday after an electrical event involving a Tesla Charger sparked a garage fire, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.
Firefighters responded to the 6600 block of Mainsail Court around 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 26. They arrived to find flames coming through the roof of an attached garage at the single-family home.
Crews began extinguishing the blaze and searching the house. No residents or firefighters were injured.
One of the six occupants smelled smoke and discovered the fire in the garage. Everyone evacuated before firefighters arrived. The house had working smoke alarms, but the fire was found before they activated.
Investigators with the Office of the Fire Marshal determined that the fire began inside a stud bay in an exterior garage wall. Officials attributed the cause to an electrical event involving a Tesla Charger.
All six residents were displaced and accepted assistance offered by the Red Cross. Damage was estimated at $128,223.
