A North Carolina man was arrested early Thursday after a pursuit crossed through D.C., Maryland and Virginia, leaving two officers and another driver injured.

Titus Mayo, 22, of Winterville, North Carolina, faces Virginia charges including eluding, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license, along with other traffic offenses. Authorities in D.C. and Prince George’s County were still determining what charges he could face in those jurisdictions.

The incident began shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday near Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Forrester Street in Southwest D.C.’s Bellevue neighborhood. Officers attempted to stop a white Range Rover, but the driver refused and struck a D.C. police officer who was on foot.

The officer was treated at a hospital and later released. Police issued a lookout for a newer-model white Range Rover with temporary South Carolina tags.

Prince George’s County officers located the SUV shortly after 3:30 a.m. Thursday. When they tried to stop it, the driver fled again, leading officers across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge into Virginia.

Virginia State Police joined the pursuit as it continued south on the Capital Beltway. Mayo struck a vehicle whose driver had moved onto the left shoulder in an attempt to avoid the chase. That driver was hospitalized with injuries.

Mayo then swerved across the Beltway and hit a Virginia State Police vehicle. The trooper suffered minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

Police arrested Mayo after the crash. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.
