The Tour de Mount Vernon Community Bike Ride will celebrate its 10th anniversary Saturday, Oct. 18, with cyclists traveling past historical, ecological and cultural sites across the Mount Vernon District.
Organized with the Fairfax Alliance for Better Bicycling, the event will begin and end at the Woodlawn & Pope-Leighey House. Check-in opens at 7:45 a.m., and the ride starts at 8:30 a.m.
Participants can choose a 20-mile or 40-mile route through the district’s northern and central areas. Featured locations include George Washington’s Mount Vernon, River Farm, Historic Gum Springs and the newly renovated Mount Vernon Rec Center.
Fairfax County police officers and ride monitors will assist cyclists along the routes. Afterward, participants can gather for music and sweet potato chili, with beverages available for purchase from Bunnyman Brewing.
Commemorative socks will also be offered while supplies last. Registration is available through Fairfax County’s Tour de Mount Vernon webpage.
