Fairfax County Public Schools has removed two teachers from their duties amid separate criminal investigations, Superintendent Michelle C. Reid announced Feb. 11, 2025.

Reid said FCPS is cooperating with the Fairfax County Police Department and other agencies investigating the allegations. Employees are removed from their positions while criminal investigations are underway, in accordance with school system regulations.

In one case, a teacher was accused of inappropriately touching a student. FCPS immediately contacted Child Protective Services and removed the teacher from his responsibilities. He remains on leave and is prohibited from entering FCPS property.

After police notified FCPS that the teacher had been charged, the school system informed families at both schools where he was teaching. Families at schools where he previously worked were also notified as a precaution.

The second teacher’s charges resulted from a broader Fairfax County police investigation announced at a press conference earlier that day. Police told FCPS there was no indication at the time that any FCPS students were involved in that case.

Reid said the school system coordinates public communications with investigators so information is released after the initial investigation concludes and probable cause is established, avoiding interference with the case.

Affected students, employees and schools are being offered counseling and other support. FCPS staff members are mandatory reporters and receive annual training on the procedures for reporting allegations, which may be referred to Child Protective Services, county police or other law enforcement agencies.

FCPS began conducting updated criminal background checks for all employees in 2023 and also reviewed the sex offender database for its workforce. The school system is seeking funding to join the Rap Back Service, which alerts authorized government agencies to changes in the criminal histories of people serving in sensitive or trusted positions.
