Two separate shootings in Springfield left two men wounded within a week, prompting a temporary shelter-in-place at Lewis High School and leading to multiple arrests.
The first shooting occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. Feb. 6 in the 7600 block of Cork Glen Way. Because the shooting happened near Lewis High School, the school temporarily sheltered in place. No students were harmed.
Fairfax County police officers found an adult man with a gunshot wound to his upper body and provided emergency aid until Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel arrived. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators preliminarily determined that the man arrived home during a burglary. When he opened the door, he was shot once in the upper body. The intruders then left through the rear door and fled.
With assistance from the Real Time Crime Center, detectives identified a white 2014 Infiniti Q50 connected to the shooting on Feb. 8. The vehicle was registered to a 20-year-old Alexandria man who had been arrested around 8 p.m. Feb. 6 in the Mount Vernon District on unrelated firearm and drug charges.
After reviewing surveillance footage, detectives linked the man to the Springfield shooting. He was charged with malicious wounding, armed burglary and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. He remained at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.

A second shooting was reported around 5:34 p.m. Feb. 13 in the 6500 block of Springfield Mall. Officers found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Police said a verbal dispute occurred before the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the man. The suspect left before officers arrived, but responding officers flooded the area and arrested him in a parking garage. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
A second juvenile was taken into custody in connection with an associated assault.
The shooting suspect was taken to the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center. He was charged with aggravated malicious wounding, using a firearm in the commission of a felony, discharging a firearm within a building, removing or altering a serial number, and possessing a firearm while under 18. He was held pending a detention hearing.
