Fairfax County Public Schools will introduce its weapon screening system at all middle and high schools in fall 2025, expanding a safety initiative piloted at high schools during the spring.
The technology is similar to screening systems used for years at concerts and sporting events. Several FCPS high school students previously joined Superintendent Dr. Michelle C. Reid to test the system and discuss school safety.
The expansion is part of the school division’s layered safety and security program. FCPS said it will release additional details before the new school year so students, employees, and families understand the screening process.
Families can review frequently asked questions on the FCPS website and submit additional questions online to the Office of the Chief of Safety and Security.
